In Memory of Ace

It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of another of our riders. Ace drove with us from 2006-2016. Ace always had a smile on his face and loved driving. We will miss seeing this ray of sunshine every week! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Right Path Receives Grant from Disabled Veterans National Foundation

Drumright, Oklahoma (May 27, 2016) The Right Path Riding Academy is honored to announce it has received a grant from the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) for $10,000, which will fund our Hooves on the Ground Horsemanship Program for veterans.

Leslie Kirkland, Executive Director and founder of the Right Path Riding Academy, said, “Equines helping veterans recover from the ravages of war, both mentally and physically, was so very evident as the veterans participated in our Hooves on the Ground program.  The Right Path extends its gratitude and thanks to DVNF for awarding funds that will allow this work to continue into the future.”

In 2015 the Right Path expanded our capacity to provide equine assisted activities to serve our military in Central Oklahoma. Horses have innate qualities which make them unique therapeutic partners.  Our program utilizes these characteristics to benefit veterans dealing with issues related to emotional and/or physical wounds suffered as a result of their military service. We offer specialized horsemanship classes where veterans are given the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with their assigned horse and mentor veterans.

Joseph VanFonda (USMC SgtMaj Ret.), CEO of the Disabled Veterans National Foundation commented on the grant award, saying, “We have funded equine initiatives for veterans in the past, and for good reason – it produces meaningful results for veterans working to overcome the mental effects of combat. We’re pleased to help fund such a vital initiative, and hope many veterans can finally begin to heal.

About the Disabled Veterans National Foundation:

The Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom.

And what Abby wanted most…..Prancer, the horse she trained, was adopted into a forever, loving home where she will be a kids horse.

In the Company of a Horse

“In the company of a horse, already perfect in his nature, we discover our own authenticities. We form a trusting relationship. not by controlling, but by earning our place as a fit leader while ever remaining the student.” Unknown
